How I Work
-
Discussion with stakeholder(s) to learn what they want to do better and identify challenges.
-
Proposal written and presented.
-
Thoroughly educate myself on your radio station, organization or company.
-
Begin project well informed.
-
Listening and fact finding phase.
-
Connections begin to emerge between the problem, the causes and potential solutions. Sometimes, only an outsider can see how bits of unrelated, abstract information will unlock the solution to your organization’s puzzles, challenges and frustrations.
-
A “best solution” decision is made and the plan on how to fix the problem is developed, executed, tracked and completed.
-
A follow up evaluation of the project and what can be learned to avoid similar problems in the future.
How I Don't Work
I do not practise Seagull consulting. To paraphrase Ken Blanchard in his book Leadership and the One Minute Manager, Seagull consulting (management) flies in, makes a lot of noise, craps on everything and flies out. Fortunately, I do not know any seagull consultants, but it is important to make the distinction between how I work and how consultants are sometimes perceived.
What I Bring
-a creative, collegial, respectful, personable, witty, analytical approach to interacting with people
-the sagacity to sift through complex problems and see solutions
-the experience to bring people with divergent personalities and opinions together to find common ground and align as a creative problem solving team
-an outsider’s objectivity to offer a different perspective to your organization
-commitment to naturally see a way when others are convinced there is no way
-a flair for breaking down technical aspects to an easy to understand concept
-an aptitude to translate technical terminology into simple language
